Accounting For Increased Fire Department Employees
Part of the funding for the station – approved through two separate referendums – including the addition of six paramedics/firefighters and six advanced Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)/firefighters to provide 24/7, 911 emergency medical services (EMS) and firefighting services. With this addition, came a need for increased storage space for the gear, goods, and grub required to keep them ready at a moment’s notice.
Our experts started by taking stock of the new space and its layout, identifying potential improvements and ways to accommodate growth projections. Taking these inputs into account, our team of in-house designers and certified installers delivered specialized storage for locations across the station that are as functional as they are accessible.
Kitchen
As many shifts within the station can last for more than 24 hours, staff need dependable solutions for keeping food reserves safe and organized. To address this issue, Spacesaver installed its 4-Post Shelving with locking doors in the station’s pantry. Now each team and shift have their own cabinet filled with their respective delectables.
EMS Supply Storage
For the station’s EMTs tasked with responding to calls, any disruption can be a matter of life and death. To help reduce the amount of time spent searching for necessary supplies, Spacesaver transformed a small room adjacent to the ambulance bay. Included to maximize capacity in the storage space, is a mixture of mechanical-assist HDMS and static shelving designed to allow responders to access the materials they need and get to those in need.

Maintenance Storage
It takes having a myriad of replacement parts and tools on hand and at the ready to keep ambulance and fire crews and their equipment running at peak efficiency. Utilizing 4-Post shelving and FrameWRX bins, staff can store items of all shapes and sizes and know they will be where they need to be, when they need to be.
Office and PPE Supplies
From maintaining PPE to preserving necessary records and accessories, administrative functions play a key role in maintaining a cohesive chain of information throughout the station. To accommodate the volume and variety of materials needed to be stored, we equipped the station with mechanical-assist HDMS. Fully configurable to fit boxes, bags, and cases of all sizes, each carriage can be relocated at the turn of a handle until the right solution is found.
Personal & Professional Gear Storage
As damage to gear is a common occurrence that can leave users vulnerable to the elements of the job, spare equipment must be kept on hand. Knowing this and how bulky these items can be, our experts provided mechanical-assist HMDS dedicated to maximizing storage capacity for boots, jackets, helmets, gloves, and many more integral items.
Personal Storage Lockers In Sleeping Area
As responders need to be well rested and ready for action, the station has several bunk areas equipped with beds and bedding. To reduce any delay when the call for service comes in, we installed our trusted FreeStyle Personal Storage Locker (PSL) within the sleeping area to store both personal and professional belongings. Each of these lockers are customized to fit the specific needs of each department and their members, accounting for requirements ranging from ventilated shoe storage to USB charging functionality.

While our storage plan accounted for all sections of the station, there was a need for a solution that could provide a secure option for any "where should this go?" question. For Fort Atkinson Fire Department, these items included paper towels, coffee accessories, plastic silverware, and more. To keep these items out of sight – but not out of mind – our experts provided 4-Post Shelving with full-height doors to provide secure storage with a better aesthetic.
